One ancient story explains more about our modern world than most headlines ever will. We open Genesis 11 and treat the Tower of Babel as more than a children’s lesson about mixed-up languages. For us, Babel is a case study in what happens when people chase unity without God: pride hardens, worship shifts from Creator to creation, and power concentrates into something that looks a lot like a one world government under human control.
We follow the thread through Scripture and history, looking at Nimrod’s role in Babel’s rebellion and how Romans 1 describes a repeating pattern of spiritual decline. We also talk about “mystery Babylon” and why Revelation 17 calls Babylon a mother source, then connect that idea to the way pagan religions across Greece, Rome, Egypt, India, and Babylon share familiar themes. Whether you’re thinking about culture, politics, or personal faith, the big question stays the same: are we building our lives around God’s truth or around a man-made system that eventually demands our worship?
Then we shift to something we all use every day: language. Human speech is astonishing, and we explore why it matters that God communicates with words, gives us Scripture, and ultimately reveals Himself through Jesus. John 1 brings it home: Jesus is the Word made flesh, the radiance and exact representation of the Father. If you want a Bible-based devotional on the Tower of Babel, the origin of languages, and the spiritual battle behind false worship, you’ll find a lot to sit with here. Babel As Rebellion And Collectivism
SPEAKER_02Well, we're now at Genesis chapter eleven, which talks about the Tower of Babel, the rebellion of man against God. It reveals to us the end result of collectivism and the desire for a one world government. Does that sound familiar to you? The confusion of languages at Babel was just as worldwide in its impact as was Noah's flood. There's no doubt that Satan, who roams about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour and whom he may deceive, was behind the scenes at Babel, prompting, promoting, deceiving, suggesting and manipulating Ham's great grandson Nimrod, whose name is, do you remember? Let us rebel. That was the meaning of Nimrod's name. Just as their forefathers did before the flood, Nimrod's followers left off worshiping the Creator to worship the creation. Now if you remember in Romans chapter one, there's a scripture that describes what happened before the flood and what was beginning to happen once again after the flood. Romans chapter one verses twenty one to twenty three talks about what happens in the life of people who reject God. For even though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man, and of birds and four footed animals and crawling creatures. So this happened before the flood, is beginning to happen now at Babel after the flood, and it's continued to happen all over the world ever
Mystery Babylon And Pagan Religion Roots
SPEAKER_02since. And this verse describes what has happened in a continuing cycle ever since. There's abundant evidence that all the pagan religions of our world can be traced back to mystery Babel, mystery Babylon. Even the gods and goddesses of Greece, Rome, India, Egypt, and Babylon. Nimrod himself was deified as the chief god Merodoch or Marduk of Babylon. Each of these pagan deities was identified with the stars and the planets, the Bible calls them the host of heaven, with sun worship occupying a central place. This system was formulated in the signs of the Zodiac, which amazingly is a formal part of every pagan religion worldwide. Now how is that? Well you know, they all originated in one spot. Where? At Babel, with the same satanic authors. Who were they? Lucifer, known as the Daystar, and his demonic minions. Remember, Satan is called the one who deceives the entire world in Revelation twelve and verse nine, and no doubt he was doing so in Nimrod's day. More than just developing a system of anti god Satan worship, Lucifer led Nimrod to unify all the men of his day into a one world government. However, it was not a theocratic government under divine leadership as God instructed Noah in Genesis chapter nine, but rather a dictatorship under Nimrod the rebel. Ancient occult tradition suggests that Nimrod not only set himself up as head of the civil government, but also set himself up as the chief priest, with his wife Samaris as the queen. Now, lest you think that all of this is presumptuous, recall that in Revelation seventeen in verse five, Babylon is called the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth, the mother of harlots and abomination of the earth, indicating that Babylon's religious system served as the original source of all the world's pagan religions. You see, these things had to begin somewhere, and they began at Babel.
One Language Before Babel Explained
SPEAKER_02Recall that God commanded men to be faithful, multiply and fill the earth, to spread all over the earth. In direct disobedience to that command, Nimrod and his followers preferred to live together in one unit under a one world government, under a single human dictator, rather than under God's divine law and God's benevolence. And all of this led to the events at Babel. Now let's read verse one and two in chapter eleven. Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It came about as they journeyed east that they found a plain in the lands of Shinar and settled there. Literally this verse means that they were all of one lip and one set of words, meaning the same language as before the flood, all the way back to Adam and Eve, and it was probably a Hebrew dialect, since all the names prior to the flood were of Hebrew extraction. It is highly unlikely that Shem and his descendants were a part of the rebellion at Babel, so their Hebrew language was probably unaffected. Consequently, they would have continued to speak the same language they had always spoken even before Babel and before the flood. Now
Why Human Speech Defies Evolution
SPEAKER_02here is a real conundrum for the evolutionist. It's a real dilemma for the evolutionist, and that dilemma is this human speech. Human language. Speech and language is truly one of the most amazing attributes of humankind. The evolutionist simply cannot explain the unbridgeable gap, the unbridgeable chasm between the unintelligible chattering of animals. You've heard the squirrels in the trees, the birds that sing and chatter, a donkey braying, a rooster crowing, a turkey gobbling, and perhaps it means something to the animals, but it means nothing to you and me. And there's an unbridgeable gap between the animals chattering and human speech with its infinite variety of precise word variations and precise meanings. And it is precisely because of this unique characteristic of man that you and I can communicate so clearly, so eloquently, and because of this that God chose to reveal Himself to you and me through the written word, the Bible, which reveals to us the living Word who is our Lord Jesus Christ. Have you heard that somewhere before? That is why Jesus is the word that became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus is the physical personification of all that God wants to say to you and me. In fact, in John chapter one verses one through three, John says to us, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and apart from him nothing came into being that has come into being. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. You see, Jesus is the Word. He is the living word. Jesus Himself said, He who has seen me has seen the Father, and I always speak the words of my Father. Jesus is the Word, the living word, the Word of truth. And without spoken language, none of that were none of that would be possible. Every day, dear listener, thank God for spoken language, intelligible language, and for ears to hear and discern spiritual truth. Because as Hebrews chapter one and verse two tells us, God has spoken to us by His Son, who is the radiance, the exact representation of the Father.
