DWDP - Gen 6 ; 4 There were Giants in the Earth

Dr. Robert E. Jackson Season 2 Episode 366

Giants stride through ancient pages, but the real story here is how renown without righteousness corrodes a world. We open Genesis 6 and meet the Nephilim, trace the root of their name to “fallen,” and explore how demonic influence, cultural myth, and biblical testimony converge around an age swollen with power and soaked in violence. Along the way, we connect paleontology’s record of outsized creatures and the cross‑cultural memory of giants with Scripture’s concern: when strength sets the rules, humanity loses its soul.

From the “sons of God” to the flood, we unpack why God’s patience has a purpose and a limit. We consider how speculation about manipulation of mind, spirit, and even body helps modern listeners grasp the scale of corruption that preceded judgment. Then we follow the thread forward—Anakim in Canaan, Goliath before David—and see why “mighty men of old” became famous for the very traits that fractured society. Power impresses; holiness preserves. That tension sits at the heart of this conversation.

Finally, we look around our streets and screens. Entertainment normalizes what once shocked, news rounds tally violence with numbing regularity, and families carry the weight. We offer a sober, hopeful response: guard your home, tune your conscience, and set your eyes on a better horizon as Jesus warns that the world will look a lot like Noah’s days when few expect it. Listen for grounded theology, practical reflection, and a clear call to live alert and anchored. If this speaks to you, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find a steady word in a noisy world.

SPEAKER_01:

Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go get your brother and your sisters, and I will tell you a story. Well today we're in Genesis chapter six, which tells us stories and information about the f the flood and the corruption of mankind. We're at Genesis chapter six and verse four. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Now that brings some questions to mind immediately. Who or what are the Nephilim? All of you budding young Bible scholars should know this right off the top of your pretty little heads. But before we answer that question, let's talk paleontology, which is the study of fossilized remains of previous generations. So let's talk paleontology first. Paleontologists tell us that in prior ages there were giant creatures, like the woolly mammoth, like the cave bears, like giant cockroaches and dragonflies. And then there were the dinosaurs of enormous size, but there are also footprints, human footprints of gigantic size suggesting that there were giants in the earth in those days, just like the scripture tells us. So the historical record provided by divine revelation of giants in the earth is not the only evidence that exists to corroborate the biblical record. Where did these Nephilim, these giants come from? Well, they were the progeny, the offspring of the demonic union of the demonically controlled men and women of this era as we discussed last week. The word translated giants in the King James Version is Nephilim in the New American Standard Bible, and it comes from the Hebrew verb Nefal in APHAL Nefal, which means fall, and it implies those who have fallen, which is a reference to their pseudo parents, the fallen angels. Over time, the word Nephilim came to mean giants, and in fact, the Hebrew spies called the giants they observed in Canaan the Nephilim. We can only speculate at this point, but demon controlled people whose mind and spirit were manipulated by superpowerful and super intelligent external beings probably had their physical bodies manipulated as well, including their genetic code, enabling the production of extra large offspring. Their children were giants in size, but also giants in corruption and violence. The fallen sons of God by some genetic manipulation produced a race of gigantes, a race of monsters of large proportion, but under demonic control. The culture of that time was materialistic and ungodly and filled with violence, and now it was suddenly injected into the midst of an unnatural mix of demon possessed and corrupted giants called the Nephilim. It was the result of those unnatural and unlawful unions between the angels and these people, the demonic angels and these people. The result was a boiling cauldron of sin, violence and corruption, worldwide corruption that even a patient and long suffering God could not tolerate any longer. The planet would soon be cleansed by the judgment of the waters of the flood. Those flood waters are now the waters of the oceans of our planet. It's interesting that in Revelation chapter twenty and verse thirteen, the scripture informs us that in the final judgment that the sea gave up the dead which were in it. It may well be that these evil spirits who indwelt their bodies, who have been imprisoned imprisoned in a place called Tartarus, Second Peter chapter two and verse four calls hell Tartarus and are probably the spirits in prison, which once were disobedient when the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah. That's first Peter chapter three verse nineteen to twenty. And to whom Christ went in the spirit after his death to proclaim his ultimate victory over their evil purpose. Now here theologians believe that Moses, who wrote the first five books of the Bible, put in an editorial comment to Noah's account when he added that there were giants also after that. And of course they were in the days of the Canaanites. They were the sons of Anach, known as the Anakim. And when the spies went into Canaan, you remember the twelve spies who entered Canaan, and they came back to give a very fearful and bad report to the children of Israel. They said that they were in their eyes as grasshoppers. Why was that? Well it was because there were giants in the land. And most Moses also referred to them as the mighty men of old, the men of renown. And that was his editorial comment in Genesis chapter six and verse four. Unfortunately, their reputation was one of violence and exploits of strength, like Goliath, who was there when David was king, and they were famous in song and legend in many other cultures and many other nations, not just in the scriptures. Pagan peoples revered these violent and corrupt gigantes, or Nephilim, but to God they were simply ungodly men of violent and evil, albeit quite large. Now, in today's world, if you're foolish enough to watch much television or the movies today, you will necessarily subject yourself to harsh language, nudity and you guessed it, violence. Unless all you watch is the news or sports or Hallmark channel. Even PG movies of today would have been R rated twenty years ago. Our culture today is saturated with corruption and violence. When I drive to work every day, the news report is full of stories of violence as young people shoot and kill one another almost daily. The whole earth is filled with violence as in the days of Noah. My recommendation to you is that you and your family get your hearts right with God and keep your eyes on the eastern sky because Jesus said the Son of Man will return at a time when you least expect it, at a time when you think not, and it will be as in the days of Noah. Well, you're listening to devotions with Dr. Papa. If you like what you hear, I encourage you to follow, like, share, or download. Tell your friends and neighbors about it. And until next week, remember that your doctor loves you. And until next week, may the Lord bless you real good.
