Welcome to More Than Medicine, where Jesus is more than enough for the ills that plague our culture and our country. Hosted by author and physician, Dr Robert Jackson.
Speaker 2:Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Welcome to Devotions with Dr Papa. Gather around, grab your Bibles and let us look into the written Word, which reveals to us the living Word which is our Lord Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2:Today we're at Genesis, chapter 2, verses 21 to 22. Let me read those scriptures to you. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept. Then he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which he had taken from the man and brought her to the man. May the Lord add his blessing to this reading from the word of God, as the divine record describes the first general anesthesia and the formation of the woman from the side of man by the creative handiwork of God himself.
Speaker 2:This account causes grief and despair in the heart of the theistic evolutionist, because there's no conceivable way in which Eve's unique mode of creation can jive with an evolutionary context. More than that the New Testament confirms that this is an actual historical event. In 1 Timothy, chapter 2, and verse 13, which says For Adam was first formed, then Eve, and then in 1 Corinthians, 11, 8, the scripture says For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man, confirming that this is an actual historical event. Think about it All the men have been born of a woman, but the first woman was made from a man. Now, I don't know about you, but I would have expected God to have fashioned Eve in the same way that he made Adam out of the dust of the earth, but no, no, no, he built Eve out of the body of Adam. Now, get this. Adam's life would become her life.
Speaker 2:Let you see already the beautiful picture that these two were one flesh and should serve their Creator in unity and singleness of heart, just like married folks today, which is why Jesus said that a man should leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh. Now, jesus didn't make that up. He was quoting verse 24, which occurs later in chapter 2, this very same chapter that we're in right now. All of you married couples understand that you become one flesh One physically, emotionally, spiritually and what God has formed together should not be separated. Together should not be separated.
Speaker 2:It takes a lot of work to achieve unity and singleness of purpose, doesn't it? It takes a lot of I'm sorry and please forgive me A lot of trying to understand your partner and trying to meet their emotional needs and a lot of dying to yourself. Can I get an amen? But when we do these things, even though they be hard, the result is we create a beautiful picture of the oneness between Jesus and his bride, the church. Our marriages paint a picture. To the extent that we experience oneness and unity, we portray an accurate picture of that mystical union between Jesus and his bride, the church.
Speaker 2:Now, all the way back in the garden, god chose to fashion Eve not from the dust of the earth earth, but from Adam's side, that they may be one flesh the very first picture of that eventual mystical union. Remember this, please God does nothing by accident, but always by design, and the fact that he made Eve from Adam's side and not from the dust of the earth in order to create that very first picture of that eventual mystical union was by design and not by accident. Now let's look at verse 21. God placed Adam into a deep sleep and removed and the word is literally his sides not a rib, but literally of his sides and closed up the flesh at that place and the side which the Lord God had taken from the man he fashioned into a woman and he brought her to the man. Now let's talk about this a little bit. Adam would later state that this is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh, because God took from his side both bone and flesh and probably muscle and blood. The scripture informs us that the life of the body, the life of the flesh, the life of the soul is in the blood. Leviticus 17, 11. In taking the bone, the flesh and the blood to fashion Eve, to fashion Eve, god took Adam's very life to fashion this new woman. Now here's another picture. Remember God does nothing by accident, but always by design. Here's the picture Jesus' side was pierced on Calvary as he entered the deep sleep of death, and from his side came forth both blood and water From the life of Adam. God made Eve In like manner. We who are the bride of Christ have received life by Jesus' blood and we become members of His body and His flesh.
Speaker 2:I think it's important to note that although Eve's body came from Adam's body, her spirit or better, the image of God, came directly from God Himself. It was not mediated through Adam, as was her physical life. If you recall, genesis 127 informs us that God created man in his own image. Male and female created he him. You see, both Adam and Eve received their spirit life, the image of God, directly from the heavenly Father, of God, directly from the Heavenly Father. The same thing is true for every descendant of Adam and Eve. They receive their physical and mental traits by genetic transmission, but God Himself confers to them directly their spirit life and their ability to have fellowship with God.
Speaker 2:Zechariah, chapter 12, says this it is God who forms the spirit of man within him. Let me say that again it is God who forms the spirit of man within him. God gave to Adam and to Eve the image of God. He gave to them their spirit life, the stamp of the image of God upon them, from God himself.
Speaker 2:Now one last thought before I leave you. Why did God bring Eve to the man? Why is that statement tacked on to verse 22? Have you ever wondered about that? Well, remember what I told you Nothing happens by accident, it is all by design. Our Heavenly Father is currently preparing a bride for our Lord Jesus Christ, as it were, building up the body. When the work is complete, he will bring her the church to him, who is the bridegroom. He will go to meet her and she will be forever joined to her Lord, joined to her Lord, to the bridegroom. You see, the beautiful picture was already being painted in the garden. Nothing happens by accident, it is all by design. Now, isn't God good?
Speaker 2:Before I leave you, I want to remind you of the books that we have to offer to you. The Family Doctor Speaks the Truth About Life, a pro-life book. The Family Doctor Speaks the Truth About Seed Planting, equipping Believers for Evangelism, which is a book about sharing the gospel. The Family Doctor Speaks Turkey Tales and Bible Truths, which is a book about deer and turkey hunting. All of the stories segue immediately into a Bible teaching.
Speaker 2:And the fourth book, which is a biography about my father, who was a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, a rural family doctor, a social activist and a really great dad. I have lots of really good reviews on that biography, especially from folks who are in the medical field and who served in the military. All of these can be found at the Baptist Courier Press and on Amazon. The first book is at Zulon and if you cannot find these, then contact me. At Jackson Family Ministry. You're listening to Devotions with Dr Papa. If you like what you hear, I pray that you will share it with your friends follow, like or share or download it and I'll be back again next week.
