Speaker 2:Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Welcome to Devotions with Dr Papa. Gather around, gather your Bibles together and let's look into the written Word, which reveals to us the living Word which is our Lord Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2:We continue now studying in the book of Genesis, chapter 1, and we're now up to verses 14 through 19. Let me read those verses for you and then we'll discuss them. Genesis, chapter 1, verse 14. Then God said Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. Let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth and to govern the day and the night and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning. A fourth day. May God add his blessing to the reading of his word. On day one, he created the expanse or atmosphere, separating the waters below from the waters above. On day three, he separated the water below from the dry land, creating the seas and the continents and all the vegetation. Now we arrive at day four and God is on a roll. His creative juices are just getting started.
Speaker 2:On day one, he said let there be light, singular. On day four, he said let there be lights plural, or literally, light givers. There was intrinsic light initially, then light givers or generators of light that came later, on day four. What was their purpose? Now, that's a good question. What was the purpose of the light givers? Because, you see, there was already light.
Speaker 2:The purpose of both the initial light of the first three days and the light givers that still exist today was to divide the light from the darkness, which means three things. Both regimes were essentially the same. That means the light of the first three days and the light givers created on day four were essentially the same, and the duration of days and night were the same. And number three, the direction of the light shining on the earth was also the same. Now ponder this Before there was sun or moon, light impinged. Light shone upon the earth as it rotated on its axis.
Speaker 2:During the first three days, god did not need the sun or the moon or stars, except for one reason, and that was to mark signs and seasons, days and years. In fact, when the new heaven and earth are created, there will be no need of sun or moon, for God himself will be the light, the glory of God will illuminate it and the Lamb is its lamp. Revelations 21 tells us this that when the new heaven and the new earth are created, there will be no need for sun or moon, for God himself will be its light and the glory of God will illuminate it, and the lamb that's our Lord Jesus Christ, the lamb is its lamp. So you see, for that first three days, when there was no sun or moon or stars, there was still light, and that light was the Lord, god, the glory of God, that was its light.
Speaker 2:Now let me ask you a question. Does that sound strange to you? Now you listen to me. If there is an almighty, supernatural creator, god, it's just as easy for him to create waves of light as it is to create generators of light. To produce such light waves, god doesn't need the sun or the moon, except to mark the seasons and days and night and years, and all of that is for our benefit.
Speaker 2:Now Let me ask you a question what about the light trail? What about the stars? They're a billion years away. How did their light get here if they're a billion years away? Let me let Dr Morris answer that in his book the Genesis Record. We'll go back to the last page. This is on page 65 of his book, the Genesis Record, and he's answering that question about the light trail for these stars that are so far away, at the extremity of the universe. He says it therefore did not take a billion years for the light from a star which is a billion light years distant from the earth to reach the earth.
Speaker 2:After the star was created, the light trail from the star was created in transit, as it were, all the way from the star to the earth, three days before the star itself was created. As noted earlier, the universe was created full grown from the beginning. God did not require millions of years to develop it into its intended usable form. The purpose of the heavenly bodies was to give light upon the earth. So this is what they did right from the beginning. And what he's telling us, dear listener, is that light trail was created on the very first day when God said let there be light. That light trail, from the extremity of the universe all the way to planet Earth, was created that very first day, three days before the star was created. You see, our God thinks of everything. Both sun and moon are referenced as light givers, although you and I realize they are not of the same substance. One generates light, that's the sun, and the other reflects light, that's the moon. But as far as you and I are concerned, here on this planet, they are both givers of light.
Speaker 2:And then the scripture just mentions stars in passing. It says he made the stars also, as if they're just very insignificant. Well, you see, stars are mostly helium and hydrogen. I mean, they're monstrously large, but as far as their construction, they're quite simple. Compared to planet Earth, which is highly complex, stars are in actuality quite simple. They're just humongously large.
Speaker 2:Now there's no reason to believe that the stars were made just as they are now, except for materialistic, evolutionary prejudice, despite the fact that astrologers and astronomers have been observing the stars for 4,000 years or more, no one has ever seen a star or a galaxy evolve or change at all. The only thing that they've ever observed changing is the novas and supernovas that occasionally will explode, but other than that, the stars have been the same. For the 4,000 plus years that men have been observing the stars, there's been no evolutionary change in the stars. Farmers and weathermen, military men and investors have studied the somewhat predictable pattern of the weather for centuries. Now why is the weather predictable? It's because of the sun and moon in their predictable seasonal changes that necessarily affect seasons and day and night and the weather patterns on planet Earth.
Speaker 2:A clear indication of the corruption of the heart of man is the uncertain art of the astrologers who attempt to predict the future by reading the stars, reading the signs of the zodiac, the stars, reading the signs of the zodiac. God gave the stars, the sun and the moon for seasons, day and night, and indeed for signs, but not for prognosticating, not for predicting the future. Ancient kings had entire classes of astrologers in their court who claimed expertise at reading the stars and predicting the future. Indeed, joseph and Daniel in the Old Testament had contest with the astrologers employed by Pharaoh and by the Babylonian kings, who attempted to predict the future for their kings or even read and interpret dreams, which they could not successfully do. But God gave Joseph and Daniel a supernatural ability to interpret the dreams of Pharaoh and the Babylonian king. They even worshipped the sun and the moon and, rather than worshipping the true God, they built great monuments to the sun god and the moon god and worshipped them instead of the true God of the heavens and the earth. And, as Job said, they would kiss the hand, which was an ancient tradition indicating submission to the sun god.
Speaker 2:Now, what is the consequence of all of this blatant idolatry? Well, romans, chapter 1, gives us a clear indication of the consequence of worshiping the creation rather than the creator. Let me read to you from Romans, chapter 1, verses 18 through 22. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them, for God made it evident to them, for since the creation of the world and of course that's what we're talking about in these lessons the creation of the world, his invisible attributes, his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Speaker 2:For even though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks. But they became futile in their speculations and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Well, you see what happens when men begin to worship the creation rather than the creator, worshiping the sun and the moon and the stars and even the creatures that God created upon the earth. And the scripture then goes on in the next verses to say that God gave them over first to impurity of heart, then to degrading passions and then to a depraved mind. All of these are the consequences of worshiping idols, worshiping the sun and the moon and the stars rather than worshiping the true God. But the Bible also tells us in Genesis, chapter 1, that the sun, the moon and the stars were given for signs, and the Bible tells us that, in the fullness of time, the most important sign was the star that led the wise men to Bethlehem, where they worshiped the true king, our Lord Jesus Christ, who's the king of all the ages, the king of glory, the king of all the nations, the king of all kings and the ruler of the kings of all the earth. And more than that. In the end times, the Bible tells us that there will be stars that will fall from the sky, and the sun and the moon will be partially darkened and there will be blood moons. All of these are signs, for those who are biblically astute, that the judge of all the earth will soon make his appearance and make all things right. The sun, moon and stars are given not to be worshipped, but to cause us to worship the Creator and to give glory to God.
Speaker 2:Now, king David was a psalm giver, a psalm writer. He was the shepherd boy who became the psalm writer, and he told us in Psalms, chapter 8, verses 1 and 2, o Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth who have displayed your splendor above the heavens, from the mouth of infants and nursing babes. You have established strength because of your adversaries. And then, in verse three and four, he says when I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have ordained. What is man that you take thought of him, and the son of man that you care for him. Well, you see how great is our God. And then, in Psalms 19, there's another passage where he talks about.
Speaker 2:In verses one through six, the heavens are telling of the glory of God and their expanse is declaring the work of his hands. And their expanse is declaring the work of his hands. Day to day pours forth speech and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words. Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth and their utterances to the ends of the world. In them he has placed a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom. Coming out of his chamber, it rejoices as a strong man to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens and its circuit to the other end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
Speaker 2:You see, this is a shepherd boy who eventually became a warrior, who then became the king of all of Judah and eventually all of Israel, and he observed the sun, the moon and the stars every day, but he never worshipped the sun and the moon and stars. It led him to worship the true God and the creator of the heavens and the moon and stars. It led him to worship the true God and the creator of the heavens and the earth. And then, lastly, in Psalm 66, in verses one through four, the Psalm writer had this to say shout joyfully to God, all the earth, sing the glory of his name, make his praise glorious. Say to God how awesome are your works. Because of the greatness of your power, your enemies will give feigned obedience to you. All the earth will worship you and will sing praises to you. They will sing praises to your name. Why is that? Because he is the creator. He is the maker of the heavens and the earth and he alone is worthy to be worshiped.
Speaker 2:Dear listeners, take time every day to give glory to God. Take time every day to worship the creator. When you see the blue sky and the sun rising in the early morning, give glory to God. Bow the knee and worship the true Creator. Give glory to God in your heart and say my heart is fixed. Oh God, my heart is fixed. I will praise the Lord. You're listening to Devotions with Dr Papa.
