Dr. Robert Jackson:

Welcome to More Than Medicine, where Jesus is more than enough for the ills that plague our culture and our country. Hosted by author and physician, Dr Robert Jackson.

Speaker 2:

Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Welcome to Devotions with Dr Papa. Gather around, grab your Bibles and let's look into the written Word, which reveals to us the living Word, who is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2:

We're now in Genesis, chapter 1, and we have arrived at verses 9 through 13. Let me read those verses first, and then we'll come back and address them one at a time. Then God said Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place and let the dry land appear, and it was so. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters he called seas, and God saw that it was good. Then God said Let the earth sprout vegetation plants yielding seed and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them. And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation plants yielding seed after their kind and trees bearing fruit with seed in them after their kind, and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning. A third day. May the Lord add His blessing to the reading of His Word. Now let's go back to verses 9 and 10.

Speaker 2:

On the third day, a third act of division occurred. A third division was accomplished by God. If you remember, on day one, light was divided from darkness. On day two, the waters below the expanse were divided from the waters that were above the expanse, and now, on day three, dry land is divided or separated from the waters below. Now, what accomplished this amazing feat? Well, the energizing power that made this possible was nothing other than the Word of God. God spoke and the dry land emerged from the shoreless ocean in which all the material elements were randomly dissolved. Suddenly, the earth's crust, its mantle and its core appeared miraculously, by the Word and by the will of God, great lakes and rushing rivers appeared to accommodate the runoff of water flowing to the newly created seas. As the continents rose, there were obviously great subterranean chambers filled with water, because Scripture tells us later that when the great flood in Noah's day came, god opened the floodgates of the deep as the waters ran off the rising, newly formed continents, the waters were quote gathered into one place which God called seas, and if you notice the word there is plural, indicating that there was more than one ocean. These oceans and continents are probably very different from the ones that we see today because of the flood, which changed Earth topography dramatically, causing tremendous erosion, the movement of the Earth's tectonic plates, the appearance of mountains, the development of new seas and the movement of continents. And, of course, all life on the planet died, except those rescued by God's grace in the ark.

Speaker 2:

Now, understanding this is very important because of the evolutionary dogma that depends on uniformitarianism. Now, that's a big word, but uniformitarianism teaches that all processes have continued the same undisturbed for endless ages. Evolutionary dogma requires enormous time, plus genetic mutation, plus chance to create the transitional forms of life. Cataclysmic events in the middle of this process, such as Noah's flood, disrupts their entire scenario. A worldwide flood 4,000 years ago precludes uniformitarianism and would destroy the fossil record especially, which we will discuss in detail in Genesis, chapter 9.

Speaker 2:

God called the dry land, earth. The Hebrew word there is Eretz, e-r-e-t-z, and it's the exact same word used in verse 1 and 2 of Genesis, chapter 1. So the foundation of the earth has been perfectly laid and I'm hoping that God is not tired because he is only halfway done with day three, oh, my goodness. Now let's look at verses 11 to 13. Our God is eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, god, and in creation he thinks of everything. Prior to his next venture, he had to place a blanket of soil, silt, sand and clay in just the right mixture, fully loaded with chemical nutrients and moisture, in order to support what Well, you guessed it the grasses, the shrubs and the trees, which all come next on day three. Then God said well, god speaks once again. And these highly intricate, complex, fully formed systems appear, each with its seed. You see, the Bible is very specific on this item Each with its seed and the ability to reproduce itself. Now let me ask you a question Does that sound like you, like the gradualism of evolutionary processes that took millions and millions of years? No, it's the exact opposite. It's an abrupt, instantaneous appearance of all of these things on planet Earth.

Speaker 2:

It is significant that the plants were made not as seeds but as fully grown plants with seeds in them and the ability to reproduce. They were created with the quote appearance of age, close quote. They were created as adult plants. Let me quote Dr Henry Morris in his book the Genesis Record. This is important. It should be mentioned that the formation of plants, even in such complex forms as fruit trees, occurred before the creation of any form of animal life. All of the animals, if you recall, occurred at a later date. This, of course, is quite logical, but it does flatly contradict the accepted evolutionary system which has marine animals, evolutionary system which has marine animals, both invertebrates and vertebrates, evolving hundreds of millions of years before the evolution of fruit trees and other higher plants. Furthermore, many plants require pollination by insects, but insects were not made until the sixth day of creation, which fact argues against the possibility that the days of creation could have been long ages.

Speaker 2:

The idea of theistic evolution is counter to the biblical record of creation in practically every passage. Well, you understand that theistic evolution is counter to the biblical record which has God speaking things into existence instantaneously. Adam was created as a full-grown man, the trees were created as full-grown trees and the whole universe was created as a functioning entity, complete and fully developed right from the beginning. And that's a quote from Dr Morris as well. Now look at verse 11. You see, the Bible mentions seed and kind. Let's talk about that a moment.

Speaker 2:

The seed contains DNA or genetic material that programs that organism and enables replication and stability within each kind. The DNA enables reproduction only within its kind. There is potential for tremendous variation within each kind, but the genetic code precludes and protects against the development of new kinds. The DNA allows variation within the species but no evolution into another species. For example, dog breeders can come up with all manner of varieties of dogs, but they will always be dogs and nothing else. There are many varieties of monkeys, but they will always be monkeys and will never evolve vertically into human beings, into homo sapiens. It's not in their genetic code which keeps them within their own kind.

Speaker 2:

There's a verse that I'd like to read to you in 1 Corinthians, chapter 15, which I think is very instructive 1 Corinthians, chapter 15 and verse 33, I'm sorry, verse 38 to 39. But God gives it a body, just as he wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own. All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men and another flesh of beasts and another flesh of birds and another of fish. You see, even way back in biblical times, the writers understood that there were kinds, there were different kinds of flesh and they stayed within their own kind, and we should understand the same thing. And then Dr Morris told us the same thing just a moment ago in the quote that I quoted from him, that these animals stay within their own kind and they don't move outside of their own species.

Speaker 2:

And then we see again that God saw that it was good. This is the third time that God has created something by His spoken word, and he concludes by saying it's good. After the creation of light, god saw and he said that it was good. After the dividing of the water and creating the dry land, he saw that it was good. Dry land, he saw that it was good. And now he's created plant life, the grasses, the small shrubs and the trees, all having seed within them and able to reproduce after their own kind, and he saw that it was good. And then there's that same construct Evening and morning were the third day. This construct occurs more than 100 times in the Old Testament and it always means a literal 24-hour day. Even though it may challenge our finite minds to visualize the land and the seas and all the plants being formed in one literal 24-hour day, that's exactly what the Holy Scriptures say.

Speaker 2:

You and I are not justified at all either in questioning God's supernatural ability to do this or his veracity, his truthfulness in telling us that he did. Now let me say that again. I want you to get that firmly fixed in your little pea brains. We are not justified at all either in questioning God's supernatural ability to do this or His truthfulness in telling us that he did.
