Send us a text

The power of God's voice can illuminate darkness and spark life! Join us on More Than Medicine as we explore the profoundness of God's spoken word, starting from the awe-inspiring creation account in Genesis. We'll ponder whether God's command to "Let there be light" resonated as a thunderous boom or a soft whisper, showcasing the transformative power inherent in His words. We also reflect on the timeless dialogues He shared with humanity, including the challenging rhetorical questions posed to Job, revealing God's supreme authority and boundless knowledge. These stories remind us of the divine willingness to engage with us, flawed as we are, highlighting the immense sovereignty and intimate care He exercises over creation.

Further, in our next DWDP, we go deep into Genesis chapter 1, unraveling the mysteries surrounding the origins of angels and the intriguing day-age theory. These foundational scriptures spark questions that we aim to clarify, enriching our understanding of these early biblical narratives. As we unpack verses 3 through 5, we invite you to ponder the divine mysteries these passages hold and gain fresh perspectives on God's narrative. Stick around for more episodes, as we continue to explore these eternal themes, and may these insights bless you immensely.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to More Than Medicine, where Jesus is more than enough for the ills that plague our culture and our country. Hosted by author and physician, Dr Robert Jackson.

Speaker 2:

Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Welcome to Devotions with Dr Papa. Gather around, grab your Bibles and let's look into the written Word, which reveals to us the living Word which is our Lord Jesus Christ. Today we're at verse 3 in Genesis, chapter 1. Verse 3 says Then God said Let there be light.

Speaker 2:

And there was light. Then God said Let me ask you a question Was it a loud, booming? Was it a loud, booming, bass voice, like a crack of thunder, like when God spoke at Mount Sinai to Moses and the children of Israel? Did his booming voice split the eternal darkness like lightning and bring forth the first light of day? Or was it a whisper, a still quiet voice like a blowing wind that the prophet heard when God spoke to him, not in the earthquake or the fire or the whirlwind, but in the still small voice? Was it a quiet whisper when God said let there be light and suddenly, for the first time, for the first time, the eternal black abyss was illuminated and cheered by the light of God that the blackest night could not overcome. When God said let there be light, there was light. Was there any other option? Did you expect any other outcome? Of course not. When God speaks, light comes out of eternal darkness. When God speaks, the sun, the moon, the stars, they just come, they spring into existence fully formed and fully functional. When God speaks, all creatures appear instantaneously fully formed and fully grown. When God speaks, the first man and the first woman appear as fully formed adults. When God speaks, mountains split in two and valleys are formed and rivers go rushing into the sea and oceans are scooped out of the sand as easily as when children play in the sand.

Speaker 2:

Let me read from the book of Job, in chapter 38, verses 1 through 33. And I want you to hear the rhetorical questions and answers that Job could not answer, the questions that God could, the things that God could and does do every moment of every day since he created the world by the word of his mouth and how he holds it all together by the strength of his will. Now just listen carefully to the questions that God asked Job. Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now gird up your loins like a man and I will ask you and you instruct me.

Speaker 2:

Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding, who set its measurements, since you know? Who set its measurements since you know? Or who stretched the line on it, or what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who enclosed the sea with doors when, bursting forth, it went out from the womb when I made a cloud its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and I placed boundaries on it and set a bolt and doors and said Thus far you shall come, but no farther and here shall your proud waves stop.

Speaker 2:

Have you ever in your life commanded the morning and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the ends of the earth and the wicked be shaken out of it? It is changed like clay under the seal and they stand forth like a garment From the wicked. Their light is withheld and the uplifted arm is broken. Have you entered into the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? Have you understood the expanse of the earth?

Speaker 2:

Tell me, if you know all this, where is your way to the dwelling of light and darkness? Where is its place, that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home? Do you know? For you were born then and the number of your days is great. Have you entered the storehouses of the snow? Or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of distress, for the day of war and battle? Where is the way that the light is divided or the east wind scattered on the earth? Who has cleft a channel for the flood or a way for the thunderbolt to bring rain on a land without people, on a desert, without a man in it, to satisfy the waste and desolate land and to make the seeds of grass to sprout? Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb has come the ice and the frost of heaven? Who has given it birth? Water becomes hard like stone and the surface of the deep is imprisoned? Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion? Can you lead forth a constellation in its season and guide the bear with her satellites? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens or fix their rule over the earth? You see, all of these are rhetorical questions that God asked Job and of course, job can't answer any of these questions. But God can and does every moment of every day, since he created the world by the word of His mouth and holds it together by the strength of His will, until the day it will all be burnt with a fervent heat to make the way for the new heavens and the new earth which he will speak into existence.

Speaker 2:

Now let me ask you another question. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why the Holy God, the Eternal God, the Almighty God, takes time and cares to reveal what he said to corrupt creatures like you and me? For you see, he recorded nine times in Genesis, chapter 1, the phrase God said. And God records conversations with Adam and Eve and with Cain in the first couple of chapters in this book, this holy book, and he records conversations with Noah and then multiple covenants with Abraham, which promises are still impacting the Jews and Christians even today, millennia later. Then the prophets appear, and with an oft-repeated phrase Thus saith the Lord. Why, dear listener, why does God record conversations, covenants, promises and prophetic statements that begin with Thus saith the Lord.

Speaker 2:

You see, the entirety of the Bible is called the Word of God. Here's why Because he is a God of revelation. He is a God who desires to reveal Himself, his character and His plans for mankind. He is a God who desires to reveal His love for you and me and His redemptive plan for man through the Word that he has spoken, that he has spoken. The very first thing that God spoke into existence was light. When the living word appeared in the fullness of time, who was also in the beginning with God, with God and also brought all things into being. The scripture teaches us that in him was life and the life was the light of men. The light shone in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it or overcome it, as the eternal darkness could not overcome or comprehend the light that God spoke into existence at the origin of of Jesus, the living Word, the physical personification of all that God would say to mankind.

Speaker 2:

Later in time, jesus would say he who has seen me has seen the Father. More than that, he said I do not speak on my own, but I speak the words of him who sent me. Jesus was the light of man and the express image of the invisible God. If you are listening to me today and if you have never put your faith and trust in Jesus as your only Savior and the true King of your life, let me encourage you to do so today. Today, jesus said I am the way and the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father but by me.

Speaker 2:

Please understand, jesus is the Word. He is the living Word, the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. He alone is worthy of our worship and our adoration and our praise. Let me encourage you to put your trust and your confidence in Jesus. He is the one who created the light in the very beginning. Jesus is the living Word of God, and the Word was in the beginning and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He alone is the true King. He alone is the Savior of the world, he is the creator of the world and the Savior of the world. And, as I tell my third grade boys, we must confess our sins to Him, we must repent of our sins and we must receive Him as our only Savior and the true King of our lives. Let me encourage you to do so today.

Speaker 2:

As the Scripture says, today is the day of salvation. Won't you put your trust in this Jesus, who is both the Creator of the world, the Sustainer of the world, the sustainer of the world and the Savior of the world? He can be the Savior of your eternal, never-dying soul. Father in heaven, I thank you that you are the eternal God and that Jesus is your Son, your only begotten son. I thank you, father, that you loved us enough to send your only son that whoever would believe in him would never perish but have eternal life.

Speaker 2:

I thank you for the privilege of this podcast, I thank you for those who listen and, father, I'm praying in this throbbing moment that if those there are those who listen to me that do not know Jesus, that have never been born again into your kingdom, that this very moment would be the moment in time when they put their trust and confidence in Jesus as their only savior and their true King, the true King of their lives, and I pray this in the strong and powerful name of Jesus, my blessed Savior and Redeemer. You're listening to Devotions with Dr Papa. I thank you for listening. I trust that you will be with us again next week when we look at verses 3 through 5 in Genesis, chapter 1, and we will answer a couple of very important questions about the day-age theory, about where did angels come into the picture and a few other very important questions that people ask about these formative verses in Genesis, chapter 1. Thank you for listening and may the Lord bless you. Real good.
